As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, I am trained in the following modalities to best accommodate individual clients’ needs: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Transpersonal Therapy, and Clinical Meditation and Imagery. It is the application of these types of therapies that helps me to bring peace, clarity and purpose to the lives of the client.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy focuses on getting a better understanding of thoughts and emotions, challenging negative thoughts and beliefs, developing necessary coping skills, and changing unhealthy behaviors as they are manifested in the client's present behavior - resulting in greater clarity.
Transpersonal Therapy recognizes the importance of spiritual experiences and the search for meaning and purpose in life. It is the integration of mind, body, and spirit that promotes healing, creativity, and a sense of connectedness to a greater whole - rather than just focusing on pathology. It views the client holistically, encompassing mental, physical, social, emotional, creative, and intellectual aspects. Transpersonal means beyond the personality, referring to a higher consciousness which isn’t always accessed due to our hectic lifestyles.
Clinical Meditation and Imagery teaches the client how to access our higher consciousness by tailoring specific meditations to a client’s specific needs. The goal for the client is to become more self-aware and understand how ideas, beliefs, and expectations play a role in the creation of their personal experience. This inner exploration encompasses wider aspects of understanding, strengthens the client’s connection to their intuitive self and results in a more peaceful understanding of life and death.
The practices include meditation and imagery, breathwork, cognitive reframing, emotional catharsis, journaling, somatic awareness, mindfulness, existential questioning, and perhaps yoga and exercise. The client embraces the entire human experience happening in each of us and brings into focus that part of consciousness that is not currently in focal awareness. The client’s anxieties, fears, self-doubts, and depression, are significantly reduced and there is a substantial increase in self-worth. Connecting to these inner resources teaches the client the skills to not only cope but incorporate this wisdom throughout their lives. This allows them to better manage external influences that move them in directions that feel unnatural and helps them choose paths that are more natural, leading to a happier life.
Once utilizing these inner skills, the client begins to live with purpose rather than operating out of necessity or fear. I have witnessed the advantages of engaging these inner resources and my gentle, empathetic, approach allows the client to comfortably explore their experiences and make changes they desire at their own pace. This inner wisdom reinforces their confidence, helping them gain control of and navigate their feelings, reminding them that they are not without defenses. The client learns to create healthy boundaries, and comes to realize their incredible resilience to overcome whatever comes their way.
